How thinking differently helps you get the job you want

Let me tell you the story from my 15 years of recruiting experience. It is a true story of COUNTLESS applicants that I have met.

Imagine the following situation:

You receive an email on LinkedIn for a position that is 2 levels higher than your current one, with full responsibility for the profit and loss statement and leadership of a team of senior managers. You have been following the organization for years and it is one of the target companies that you would like to work for. You think that you can make it, you feel confident and challenged, and it inspires you. You accept the invitation to a meeting, show your positive attitude and get the job.

Or the other way around, in the same situation: You check the job advertisement and think that you have only managed engineers so far and have not had full responsibility for the profit and loss account. You feel unsure whether senior managers will accept you as a leader and are worried whether you can handle the profit and loss statement on your own. You accept the proposal to meet but show your concerns and hesitation and do not get the job.

To get the job you want, you need to fundamentally change the way you THINK, FEEL and ACT.

Neuroscience has proven that we can change our brains – and therefore our behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs – just by thinking differently. You must shift how you think about yourself, as it influences your feelings and your actions.

Ok, let`s make it clear. Here is your to-do list:

1️⃣ When you get a job proposal, EVALUATE, is it a place where you can do what you love and where you can use your strengths?

2️⃣ WRITE DOWN your STRENGTHS, which will support you to succeed in the proposed job.

3️⃣ IMAGINE using your strengths in the mentioned job. Imagine how you succeed. Feel the success as detailed as you can. Stay with that feeling as long as you can and repeat it as often as you can. (Mental rehearsal helps to make your thoughts so real that the brain changes to look like the event has already become a physical reality.)

4️⃣ Now you have the MIND IN PLACE so that you can handle the challenge. With that attitude GO ROCK the job interview!
